Prof. Dr. Okan Bülent Yıldız, MD, PhD (Talk Topic: Weight, Hormones, and Beyond: The Metabolic Story of PCOS)
Prof. Dr. Okan Bülent Yıldız completed his medical degree at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine and subspecialty training in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the same institution. He pursued postdoctoral research at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and completed a translational research fellowship program at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). He currently serves as a Professor at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, with clinical and research interests focusing on obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Dr. Yıldız has authored more than 180 publications in leading international journals and reference books. He has been an invited speaker in numerous countries, particularly in the United States and Europe, and delivered a talk on “hormones and disease” during the first endocrine session held at the European Parliament in 2018. According to Elsevier/Scopus data and Stanford University rankings, he is listed among the top 1% most influential scientists worldwide.
He serves as Section Editor of the Oxford Textbook of Endocrinology and Diabetes and founding Associate Editor of the Journal of the Endocrine Society. He has held editorial positions in several international journals and served in leadership roles within the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) and the Androgen Excess and PCOS Society. He chaired the 2017 European Congress of Endocrinology and the 2021 and 2022 American Endocrine Society (ENDO) Congresses, and was named ESE Clinical Leader in Reproductive Endocrinology in 2020. Dr. Yıldız is the founder and president of EndoBridge®, an international capacity-building initiative supported by major endocrine societies in the United States and Europe.
His national and international honors include the Hacettepe University Young Scientist Award, TÜBA Young Scientist Award, TÜBİTAK Incentive Award, the European Society of Endocrinology Special Recognition Award, and the Androgen Excess and PCOS Society Clinical Research Excellence Award.
