Prof. Dr. Ender Dulundu, MD (Talk Topic: Liver Transplantation: From the Surgical Process to the Future of Organ Transplantation)
Graduating from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Dulundu completed his specialization training at Istanbul Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital. In the final year of his residency, he served as a visiting doctor at the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine, where he gained experience in the fields of Liver-Biliary Tract-Pancreas Surgery, Artificial Organ and Transplant Surgery. In 2002, he worked on gastric cancer surgery with Prof. Mitsuru Sasako at the Tokyo National Cancer Center; in 2003 and 2004, he completed his advanced fellowship at the clinic of Prof. Masatoshi Makuuchi at the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine with a scholarship from the Japanese Foundation for the Promotion of Cancer Research. Between 2005 and 2007, he served as a visiting lecturer at Hôpital Paul Brousse, Centre Hépato-Biliaire in Paris and received a European University Diploma in the field of onco-surgical strategies in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. After returning to Turkey, he established the Liver Transplant Unit at Istanbul Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 2006 and performed the first successful liver transplant there. Between 2007 and 2010, he served as the Chief of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplant Unit at the same hospital. From 2010 to 2021, he served as the Head and Director of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplant Unit within the Department of General Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. During this period, he served as deputy chief physician between 2015 and 2019, while simultaneously acting as Clinical Education Coordinator at Eastern Mediterranean University. Additionally, between 2016 and 2021, he undertook the role of Assistant Clinical Education Coordinator at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine.
Actively involved in national and international scientific societies, Prof. Dr. Dulundu has been serving as the President of the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (IASGO) Turkey Chapter and a member of the surgical section executive board since 2014. Between 2019 and 2021, he served as a Board Member and Chair of the Education Committee for the Turkish Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Association. He served as President of IASGO between 2022 and 2023, and since 2023, he has been serving as the President of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT) Turkey Chapter. A member of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) since 2016, he has also been a fellow of the Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (FASGO) since 2023, continuing his international academic standing. As of 2024, he serves as a Scientific Committee Member of the European Federation International Society for Digestive Surgery (EFISDS). Furthermore, he has been serving as a member of the Ministry of Health Emergency Liver Transplantation Scientific Advisory Board since 2021.
Additionally, in 2010, he received training in Endoscopic Ultrasonography at the University of Copenhagen Gentofte Hospital, further enhancing his competence in advanced diagnostic methods.
Currently, Prof. Dr. Ender Dulundu continues his role as Director of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplant Unit within the Department of General Surgery at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine.
